The Beginning

Day 1  September 9, 2016

Yesterday we had finished our provisioning and pulled into the dock to pump out, fill with water, and fuel up. We put 355 gallons of diesel in so hopefully we can go 500 miles on what we have before another fill. Our tanks take 630 gallons when full!!  We were able to get dock space for the night so we could beat the humidity for a little while. Friends, Linda & Bill Daley met us for drinks and pizza on the yacht club deck. It was a nice quiet "last supper" before heading south. We had hoped to watch our little Sophia in her second 3 yr old soccer practice but we had no car. She did look cute though!!

Friday dawned very humid & uncomfortable. Peter changed the oil & filter on our generator, checked the oil & coolant levels, while Jane finally put our hailing port on the stern of the boat.

Almost done

Our friends, Mark & Mary Woodward, were doing a last run to the grocery store before returning their rental car and heading to Dutch Harbor. We plan to travel together into the Chesapeake for a Marine Trawlers Rendezvous at the end of the month. At 10:am we pulled out of the dock to leave on our journey. The last time we did this was September 18, 2009 aboard s/v Kinvara. That is a blog for another day! (Kinvara.blogspot.com)  The weather was fair and the seas were calm but we were moving against the tide. Passing under the Newport Bridge Peter spied a large cruise ship. They start New England cruises in September.

We have a mooring on a nightly basis due to the upcoming Newport Boat Show starting next Thursday. We wondered why we did not get mooring #3 which we had before.
Empty mooring #3

Docks now tied to mooring #3

We will leave here when the conditions are calm for a trip to Fischers Island.
