Cedar Island Marina, Clinton, CT

September 12, 13, 14
Day 4,5,6

Monday morning had a terrific weather window to move along the CT coastline so we left Fishers Island and traveled 4 hours to Clinton, CT. After pumping out we tied up to a face dock and filled with water. Laundry was the job of the day after a week so up to the marina laundromat we went. Cedar Island is a large and friendly place with off season dock rates after Labor Day.  Tuesday's job was grocery shopping and full boat wash. Sp Peter did the former and Jane worked on the latter. Our friends aboard The Good Life arrived about 11:30. Peter was meeting a former high school friend, John Murray, for lunch at the marina restaurant, Aqua. The afternoon was spent doing small boat jobs then 5 0'clock drinks with our friends from The Good Life. The marina is protected from Long Island sound by a state park peninsula so the shallow water inside is home to many young fish. We watched large schools swirling around in circles and the larger fish feeding on them from below!!

Today, Wednesday, Jane checked a few weather reports and we took a chance to leave by 8am to cross Long Island Sound to Port Washington. We were only out about a half mile off shore and decided to turn back in. The predicted waves of 1.5-2.5 turned out to be more like 4'-5'. The wind was sustained 20mph so we had the wind, waves, and current against us.
This turned out to be the best decision in the long run. In the afternoon Jane lifted a hatch in the aft cabin and discovered about 1.5' of water in the bilge.  We discovered the fresh water pump had a hose connection that was spraying water whenever the faucet was turned on. So over the course of a week or so the water settled in the aft sump area. The wires connected to the sump pump were not connected to the box mounted above the bilge. Instead all the wires were tied together near the float switch, currently underwater which  blew the fuse to the pump. We had someone from the marina come aboard to rewire the pump so now it is configured correctly and working!!  Tomorrow the plan is to leave mid morning and head to Port Washington.
