The alarm went off way too early.......3:30 AM. We dressed, checked the house twice to make sure everything was ready and left the driveway by 4 AM. We have done this drive many times before but once crossing into Georgia about 7:30 we had an idea it would be hectic. There was a lot of traffic heading North and they were mostly from the Northeast. We then realized it was the last day of April....."snowbird" migration (Florida winter residents head home) and many vacationers from New York. It was a long tiring day to drive.....lots of traffic slowdowns and a few accidents. We stopped in Fredricksburg, VA for the night after 15 hours of driving. Sunday we were off by 6 AM to get through Washington DC and Baltimore before traffic got heavy. Luck was not on our side. It was raining when we left and it did not stop all day. The traffic was again very heavy right through Connecticut. We arrived at Sarah and Eric's house in Rhode Island by 4 PM. Huge hugs from little Sophia made our day.
This was our long second day of driving!! |
We arrived at our hotel in Rockland, the Tradewinds Inn, and will stay here 3-4 days until we can move aboard our boat. The view from our balcony is overlooking windy, rainy Rockland Harbor.
The week is improving weather wise though so we hold out hope for warmer times!
